Astrid Ziehbart, Migration Fellow at the German Marshall Fund, Member of DeutschPlus, about Germans new state of mind facing refugees and migration

In Germany, immigration “is not part of the narrative,” said Astrid Ziebarth, migration fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States.

However, Germans are proud of their country’s emergence as the continent’s leader - being no longer the post-reunification sick man of Europe.

A new generation has emerged: “It’s the ‘Generation Merkel,’ ” Ziebarth says, “People have been faring quite well economically and feel that they want to give something back.”
